Outdoor Retailer adds bikes to November show
The merge comes after the cancellation of this year's Interbike.
Cycling brands and suppliers will join outdoor exhibitors and retailers at the November Outdoor Retailer show, following the cancellation of Interbike 2019.
"We're excited to bring outdoor and bike together at Outdoor Retailer as we launch the winter season," Vice President and Show Director Marisa Nicholson said in a statement. "It's a natural fit for bike to be part of Outdoor Retailer."
The move was one of two options Emerald Expositions, owner of the two shows, proposed back in January. The other option was to feature bikes during the demo preceding Summer Market.
It is unclear if bikes will continue to show up after this year or if Interbike will be revived.
Of course, bikes have already been part of the show to some extent, but the show will now integrate bike clinics, bike-focused education, and bike product testing. Nicholson said their data shows that more than 3,000 bike buyers attend the show and "incorporating the category makes the show even more valuable."
Additionally, retailers, dealers, and buyers will have an opportunity to discover new brands and products, expand store offerings, and make new connections to support their businesses," she added.
The November show is ahead of winter outdoor buying season. However, within the bike industry, the show comes after most big companies have launched publicly announced new products.
"Connecting the bike business with Outdoor Retailer Winter Market is a logical move and big opportunity for all involved," PeopleForBikes President Tim Blumenthal said. "People who ski, hike, climb, camp, and boat also bike—there's so much overlap in participation and products."
