5 ‘Keystone’ Habits Highly Successful People ‘Persist In’
“I did it...I did it! I’m a Guinness World Record holder!” I was brimming with excitement and enthusiasm. I had just beaten 5 other competitors; two of whom were ranked as the top three free-throw shooters in the world.
“I’ve etched my name in history”, I chuckled to myself. “At least in the Guinness World Record, history!”
The NBA Wheelchair All-Stars were kicking off the 2008 All-Star Jam Session celebrations and I was getting ready to go on center court, in the New Orleans NBA Jam Session arena, when a representative from the Guinness World Record Organization approached me and asked if I wanted to participate in a new World Record event during halftime! “Absolutely,” I said without hesitation.
Ever since I was a little kid I would finger through the Guinness World Record book and imagine how cool it would be to have my name included in it! I didn’t plan on this moment but I also didn’t plan on letting this moment pass me by! My opportunity had arrived and all those hundreds of self-defining seemingly insignificant decisions I made in private practice paid off. I had spent hundreds of hours developing a free throw routine that I persisted in and religiously followed in preparation of the 2004 Paralympic games in Athens, Greece.
This habit, which was created many years prior, propelled me past the pressures a world record opportunity can generate. It allowed me to ignore the suffocating stares from the other 5 competitors, cheerleaders, mascots, Guinness representatives and the thousands of fans in the stands. It even enabled me to seize the moment, the other four competitors could not do. I became a Guinness World Record Holder in 2008 alongside Chris Paul.
My new initiative today is to help others become world record winners and dreamers. I’ve created a course and keynote speech called, I’Mpossible; 5 ‘Keystone’ Habits Highly Successful People ‘Persist In’ It focuses on 5 essential keystone habits highly successful people persist in following and finishing. The keystone of an arch is the piece that holds it up and keeps it together. The Romans understood this concept as they went about conquering the world and building structures which lasted beyond a lifetime. You can even see their lasting work today at the grand coliseum of Rome. The Romans understood that not only would the keystone piece hold up a physical arch but if adopted and applied conceptually in society and/or their personal life, it would not only sustain their ideals as they went about conquering the world but it would also bring light, understanding, and other unforeseen practices which would benefit and bless the rest of the world for centuries to come.
I’Mpossible; 5 ‘Keystone’ Habits Highly Successful People ‘Persist In’ will provide a blueprint and foundation to create your own dynasty or agenda. It will show you the way to increase your will to fulfill the dreams and desires of your heart. It will help you be a world record winner in your own world. It will help you achieve greatness. It will help you grow and progress. It will help you in your home. It will help you with your relationships. It will help you in the work place. If followed with exactness it will help you in any of the four basic areas of a well-balanced and fulfilling life.
I believe we all want to achieve greatness and continue to grow and progress but we either don’t know how, don’t have time, or we don't want to chase every new and shiny program that comes along. No one can manage time but everyone can manage activities. That’s the beauty of I’Mpossible; 5 ‘Keystone’ Habits Highly Successful People ‘Persist In’. It focuses on the most essential elements, which will in-return effect other important aspects of your lives. For example, exercise is a keystone habit for our health and physical well-being. If a person who smokes, drinks, over-eats, and sits around wants better health, they will generally be too overwhelmed to begin because they have too many things to change. They will typically quit before they even get started because they don’t know where to begin. However, if they just focus on one item, the most important item, the keystone item, they will have the motivation to accomplish the task of beginning.
The most important item, around our health and physical well-being, is exercise. Study after study shows that thirty plus minutes of exercise a day will naturally cause the person, with other health issues besides being over-weight, to eliminate their drinking habit, their smoking habit, and their eating habit by simply focusing on the keystone; exercise! By focusing on the keystone piece of the problem and working at making it a habit we naturally receive a greater return of investment with other aspects of our lives. We can’t manage time but we can manage activities!
I believe I've saved millions of people countless hours of time and frustration. I've already done the work and research. In the process, I’ve discovered the top 5 keystone habits in leadership training and personal productivity. The following 'Keystone' Habits can help your company culture and increase your bottom line.
