From Rio to Madrid to Everywhere

Throughout his life, Marcelo Vieira — 4-time UEFA Champions League winner, Olympic medalist and owner of a 1,000-watt smile — has created his own luck. Through routine. Through family. Through...purple? That’s right.

“This is easy — the real struggle was when I had nothing.”

Watch as we join Marcelo in Madrid to unveil the final products and learn how he went from the favelas of Rio to the top of football.

Marcelo

He’s a 4-time UEFA Champions League winner, 6-time best left back in the world, Olympic medalist, husband, father and friend. The more we hung out with Marcelo, the more impressed we were. He’s the humblest superstar we’ve ever met.

“Purple is a part of me”

The Color

When he first saw that particularly poppy purple — PANTONE 19-3528 TCX — on the L.A. Lakers jersey, Marcelo fell in love. Once he started incorporating it into his wardrobe and home, he found it lucky. Now, he kisses his wristbands of the same hue before each game, and wears it on his back, too.

Giving Back

In celebration for this launch, Marcelo upgraded a deteriorating pitch in the Tavares Bastos favela in Rio, painting it his lucky purple and writing a simple message on the wall: Create Your Own Luck. What’s more, a percentage of the profit from each sale will be donated to Caslu, an NGO that supports underprivileged children in Brazil.

Create Your Own Luck.

“I’m excited to work with brands who find the crossover between sport and design,” Marcelo said. “And this color collection is a fun way to start making the kind of products that I go to everyday.”
